Nic Lops has joined the YCCC Team as new Director of Athletics and Student Engagement.
A South Portland, Maine native, Nic graduated from Cheverus High School in 2011. For secondary studies, Nic attended Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, and was a four-year starter on their baseball team as well as a two-year captain. Upon graduating from Saint Joseph’s in 2015, with a bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education, he immediately enrolled in graduate school and earned his master’s degree in School Leadership. Following this, Nic signed two professional baseball contracts in 2016, one with the Watertown Bucks of the Empire Professional Baseball League, as well the Ottawa Champions in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.
Nic brings a wealth of successful experience to this new role. He has previously served in roles as an Assistant Director of Athletics, Educational Technician, Classroom Teacher, and most recently as the Head Baseball Coach at Southern Maine Community College. During Nic’s three-year-tenure with SMCC, he received “Coach of the Year” honors in each of his three seasons, as well as winning the Yankee Small College Conference Baseball Championship each season as well. Throughout his time at SMCC, Nic coached fifteen student-athletes to USCAA Academic All-American status. He also coached a student athlete who received First Team and Second Team All-American Honors. Nic’s time at SMCC also consisted of receiving an at-large-bid invitation to the USCAA Small College World Series in 2022.
Currently, Nic is also the Manager of the Sanford Mainers baseball team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). Nic has coached with Sanford for the past five summers, and was named the Joel Cooney Manager of the Year back in 2022. Through the past five years, he has coached several players who were eventually signed or drafted to various Major League Baseball Organizations.
